Below Knee Amputee Skiing

While skiing in 19 inch deep powder snow in 2001, Andy skied into a concealed tree stump fracturing his leg below the knee. The treatment for the injury required 18 surgeries and a 69 day stay in the hospital. Despite great medical care, the accident eventually resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee.

After a lengthy rehabilitation process of prosthetic treatment and physical therapy, Andy regained his mobility. He soon realized that despite losing a leg, he did not lose his ambition for life. He continues to ski, wakeboard, hike, and raise his two young boys with his beautiful wife.
